Meet Tom
I grew up going to the First Baptist Church of Odin, IL. A man by the name of Tom Rogers was my Sunday school teacher and was responsible for my initial understanding of Christ. I recall when I was 13 years old, how I came to understand that if I died, I would go to hell. On a youth canoe trip, I almost drowned. Upon our return, I asked Tom to introduce me to Jesus. I grew to have knowledge of the Bible, but not a relationship with God. I didn't know there was more to it.
It wasn't until much later in life, after being divorced and remarried to Shari with my two daughters from my first marriage and Teresa from Shari's first marriage, that I found where I had left off and my relationship with God began to grow. The Bible doesn't speak much of blended families because divorce is not God's plan. As a result, we struggled during our first three years of marriage. Shari and I were broken and we both turned back to Christ. We continued to “work out our own salvation on a daily basis” in an effort to know God and become more like Him. The struggle won't end until we see Him face to face. Even so, His burden is light, much more so then that of the world we were living in. How can we not give Him praise.
God has blessed us by placing us in Calvary Chapel Joplin since 2002 . I am humbled to serve in the capacity of deacon and head usher in our church. I have a great group of brothers and sisters that God has graciously allowed me to serve. My service allows me to take advantage of the gifts God has given me and yet, continually challenges me to grow.
