Meet Kevin
I grew up going to church on Saturday or the “Sabbath”. It really seemed somewhat painful to me at the time. I knew from missing church a few times that there were cartoons playing on Saturdays. I continued going until I was ten or eleven, and it became less painful to me. A friendly, pretty girl came up to me one service and asked me if I wanted to get “Saved”. “Saved”, I asked, “What's that?” She told me about the sinner's prayer and I prayed along with her. The next day they did baptisms, and despite my fear of being up in front of over one hundred people, I was baptized.
Unfortunately, my family stopped attending church shortly after that. My grandparents were very “into” Jesus, but trapped in the law and legalism. I never pursued God, because I wasn't instructed to do so. I fell away. It grew into the drug and alcohol use accepted by my peers. I got married and had a baby, still not grown up enough to handle it. I was divorced by the time I was twenty-five, but thankfully I got to keep my son.
I went to bars and tried many relationships. Eventually giving up on finding anyone, but that's when I met my wife Julie. She had two girls and I had my son. We got pregnant and decided to marry. When our baby girl, Felicia, was three she went to a VBS at a southern baptist church. After VBS ended, she still wanted to go to church. One morning, Julie told me she was taking Felicia to church. I said, “Wait, let me get my shoes.” That morning started the road that would bring us back to God. We have been worshiping and praising Him ever since!
